My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is the third series that was created based off of Hasbro's My Little Pony toys and previous animated series. The reboot was created by Lauren Faust, who is known for past television shows such as Powerpuff Girls and Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, and a division in the Hasbro studios. It was originally aired first on the television channel named The Hub on October 10th, 2010 in the United States. It recently finished up its second season and is now moving onward to a third.

Twilight Sparkle is a pony from Canterlot who is very extraordinary. She is a Unicorn Pony who is currently an apprentice for the current Equestria ruler, Princess Celestia. She also is known as the pony who cares about her studies nearly constantly rather than being friends with many people. When Twilight goes to a place named Ponyville, she is told by the Princess to make friends with the other ponies there. After the events of the first two episodes, she ends up meeting 5 very good friends and is told to write to Princess Celestia about a friendship report, a report explaining what she learned about friendship. From here on any of the ponies that learn friendship that week can report to Celestia, though it is usually Twilight Sparkle, to explain to her about their experiences. It is however never explained why would adult males find show made for little girls interesting.

Along with Twilight Sparkle, she has five pony friends who share the spotlight at times for the main protagonist. All of her friends represent a form of the Elements of Harmony and help her learn a lot about friendship throughout the show. Along with her pony friends, she has a baby dragon assistant who is very prominent in the show named Spike. There are a few more characters that appear a decent amount throughout the show such as the Cutie Mark Crusaders group and Princess Celestia. The remaining ponies generally are considered recurring ponies who do not get much spotlight ranging from just background appearances to an episode dealing about them. Currently the main ponies are:

  • Twilight Sparkle - The brains of the group. She loves to read books and study up on anything that comes her way. She also has 2 assistants to help her with her studies.
  • Fluttershy - Just as her name suggests, she is very shy. Fluttershy is quiet and shy most of the time throughout the show. She is great with animals ever since she fell from Cloudsdale and rarely raises her voice over a whisper.
  • Applejack - is an Earth Pony who helps run the Sweet Apple Acres with her brother Big Macintosh, her grandma Granny Smith, and her little sister Applebloom. She is reliable, a hard worker but also stubborn. (As seen in the episode Applebuck Season)
  • Rainbow Dash - The fastest Pegasus in all of Equestria. She is the most loyal pony out of her friends and will never leave them behind. Her Sonic Rainboom (event) she created when she was younger helped every one of her friends get their Cutie Marks.
  • Rarity - is a designer for clothing that lives in Ponyville. On a consistent basis throughout the show you will see her working on a new order or helping her friends with new wardrobe.
  • Pinkie Pie - The most cheerful out of the group. She is always laughing and having a good time, making parties for every little occasion. She is known for being the most random ponies in all of Ponyville.
  • Spike - Twilight Sparkle's number 1 assistant. He was born when she was taking her test to get into Celestia's School of Gifted Unicorn's. Spike helps everybody out usually in anyway he can. He also has a crush on Rarity.

Minor Characters

Apple Bloom - is Appplejack's and Big Macintosh's little sister. Apple Bloom is very good with designing (Shown in the episode The Show Stoppers when she fixes up their tree house to something amazing).

Scootaloo - can perform any type of trick with ease. She is also a very good dancer shown when she was teaching Apple Bloom how to spin.

Sweetie Belle - The younger sister of Rarity. She is a very good singer but really wants to design clothes like her older sister.
